spreading the message of islam
« on: Sunday 26 March 2006, 09:44 »
Assalaamu Alaikum dear brothers and sisters.

I am new to these boards, so forgive me if this topic has already been mentioned.

I run my own forum and a question about spreading the Message of Islam came up, in the context of one Muslim giving his or her opinion to other Muslims and non-Muslims (the topic is about the death penalty regarding the apostate in Afghanistan). At the Masjid one Friday, I remember the Sheikh talking about a hadith. The hadith basically said that a man came to the Prophet (saw) and embraced Islam. The Prophet (saw) then told the man to go back to his tribe and spread Islam. But all the man had was the Message (la ilaha illa-llah), and no further details. Of course, alhumdulillah the man returned some time later to report that the tribe all reverted to Islam.

Brothers, sisters, where can I find this Hadith? I have searched through the common databases online but I cannot find it. A member on my forum also tried to search for the hadith he has also turned up empty-handed. It is very possible that I misunderstood the Sheikh or that I am forgetting an important detail. Jazk-Allah for your help on this!
