Is there Discrimination in Islam based on castes?!
« on: Saturday 05 December 2009, 07:27 »
:salam1 this issue has been pestering my life and mind (per se) for a long time, and i havnt been able to find a single consolatory answer for it! since Islam a religion of equality, then why is there discrimination on the basis of castes? i heard some people say that in Quran, it is said that muslims have been divided in groups for identification sake...and hence, the group boundaries have to be maintained? how much of this is fair or true, i have been unable to understand!are tribes or castes that important that they take precedence over the basic human identification on the basis of takwah that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) specifically talked abt in Khuttba Hajja-tul-widah?!

I admit that I was unable to understand your question generaly and in specific which part of  Khuttba Hajja-tul-wida' you meant.

Would you kindly clarify your question to enable us to answer it, insha'allah.
Please believe there is nothing unfair in Islam, Allah is the one who created us and knows us best even better than we know ourselves.

Salam

my question was that is there anything such as tribal or caste oriented discrimination in Islam? because generally, people who believe in differentiation on tribal/caste basis take the plea that (and i might be misquoting, so correct me if i m wrong) that Islam has itslf given these distinctions...
what bothers me is that isnt this tribal/caste distinction only a source of identity? just like names...
and then the Holy Prophet (pbuh) specifically said that Neither an Arab nor an Ajami have any distinction over each other except on the basis of Takwah...
since equality is the essence of Islam...then how come Muslims cant let go these distinctions...!
i hope my rambling would make some sense this time, :) m sorry, i know i wrote a lot of convoluted ideas earlier, but that happened because i was really agitated over this issue...

Dear syd

I enjoyed reading your explanation because you asked and answered your question at the same time  :D  subhanAllah.
And the answer was correct 100%. :thumbs

When Muslims do not behave according to the religion, sometimes that cloud our mind and we mix up between what the religion calls for and what Muslims are doing.

Evey person who embrace Islam is equal to every other Muslim when it comes to his obligations and rights.

Are some Muslims better than others and they have different classes? yes as you mentioned in the Hadith... we are divided according to our piety, the one who has more has a higher rank than the one who has less.

It is obvious from life the harder you work and  the more you do the results are totally different than the ones who is doing nothing.

At the beginning and the end : Allah is the one who makes us reach our ranks in Islam according to his will, our intentions and hard work .

I am trying to keep my answer simple and clear; if you need more explanation, please do not hesitate to ask, and Insha'Allah I will try to answer to the best of my abilities.

Salam
